Why Relative Strength 🔵 is the Ultimate Cheat Code in a choppy Tape.
Let’s face it, the broader market has been a grind lately. When the tape gets sloppy, adversarial, and full of macro noise, weak stocks will find a million different excuses to roll over and bleed.
If you try to force setups in lagging or average stocks during a challenging environment, the market will chew you up.
This is why Relative Strength (RS) 🔵 is the ultimate cheat code.
True RS leaders don't care about the daily index chop. When the broader market pulls back, institutional sponsorship shows up. They use the weakness to shake out every last weak hand, hold their structural moving-average rails, and prepare for the next expansion leg because big capital has to find a home somewhere.
How to Trade RS Leaders When the Tape is Choppy
Spotting relative strength is only half the battle. To turn it into profit without getting chopped up, execution has to be surgical:
Let the Open Settle: Never chase initial morning green candles. In a sloppy tape, opening strength is often a trap. Let the market shake out the weak hands during the first 30 minutes.
Hunt for pivots: Wait for an orderly pullback into a structural intraday support level or short-term moving average where volume completely dries up. When buyers aggressively step back in to reclaim that level, that pivot is your entry.
Keep Risk Microscopic: Place your stop-loss tight right beneath the low of that reversal pivot. If the level fails, you cut it instantly with minimal damage.
Trim Into Vertical Strength Immediately: When the stock pops off that pivot on the first wave of momentum, take partial profits. This locks down your downside risk, lets the market pay for the trade, and leaves you playing with stress-free house money.
Stop fighting the macro chop. Focus on the institutional leaders showing true relative strength, wait for your pitch, and let the tape pay you.
Much Love, ChartMaster
