jobmaxxing in the cruel world.

now, the job market is no longer about "who's the best engineer?"

it's all about "who can stand out"

and you don't stand out by spamming 100s of applications on linkedin or writing "interested" in comments.

remember this golden rule by Naval: "if you do the same shit like others, your results will be shit like others" or something like that.

so in this document, ive written around 7 most unconventional ways to get opportunities in this cruel job market.

1-psycho level job hunting.

in this method, you simply make a list of companies you wanna work for, and then you target them like a psycho.

making a list gives you clarity of what you should learn, who to follow on twitter and which roles to go for.

the detailed whats and hows and mentioned here: https://opensox.ai/blog/psycho-level-job-hunting

2-public applications

in this, you find who's hiring and then you create a short and nice video about why you're the best fit.

don't forget to be creative and add a personal touch here.

here are some examples:

this approach works bcoz:

  • it's a unique method to do. so it stands out

  • ppl vouch for you — credibilitymaxxing

  • ridiculously less competition

  • it also puts kinda pressure/public responsibility on the founder/whoever posted the opening to reply to the candidate

  • even worst case is way better: you get the visibility.

3-build in public

sometimes you won't be able to find opening posts.

so in this case you can create a short and creative intro of you, including what you're looking for and how you will add value.

and post it on twitter.

like this:

i once commented under a post of a company and got the job.

4-open source

the reason i consider this unconventional is that it's still not very popular.

this guy raised a PR and got an offer at Golem Cloud: https://algora.io/mschuwalow/profile

most of my opportunities came from my open source contributions and that's exactly what i focus on in opensox pro community.

also ansh, one of my friends, made more than $40k in bounties in open source and got a job directly work contributing to screenpipe (YC S6)

i had a pod with him

5-creative projects

a creative project that blew up on twitter can take you where resumes and years of experience can't even think of.

this guy built a project and got the attention of top Gs like tanmay bhatt, levelsio, and founders of many companies.

do you think he'll have to spam "interested" on linkedin?

similarly this guy took a pain point, built a project around it, and blew it up on twitter.

got hired at a great startup pretty soon after that.

6-cold DMs/Emails

yes, it still works.

you just have to be real, quick, interesting, and valuable.

soham parekh proved it.

examples:

ive left this for you.

use your creativity and come up with something unique.

creativity has no limits and can't be contained in a list.

always remember quality of an application can beat the quantity of applications.

take care!
