how to grow on social media (8 rules):
you won’t grow a cult running the same playbook as everyone else.
"post every day. stay consistent. buy a nice camera. go viral."
none of those are wrong. they’re just not what separates the killers from you.
these are 8 rules to make you successful on socials… 1. who follows you matters more than how many
tim ferriss said he’d rather only have the fortune 100 ceos read his books over 100k random people.
get obsessive about who the right person is and post for them.
fewer views & likes is fine.
if you run a niche business, you don’t need millions of views and followers.
all you need is the 10,000 people who’d buy from you to see your stuff.
2. find your inner nerd
don’t ask what’s trending right now.
ask yourself what you nerd out about more than anyone you know.
even if you think it’s boring or weird, the internet will find your fellow nerds.
when you lean in, 2 things happen:
> competition disappears bc nobody matches your exact taste.
> every post will be a win bc you’re posting content for the fun of it.
3. learn the five D’s
the goal isn’t to be well known, but to be known well.
your audience should know five things about you:
> done: what you’ve done > deliver: what they get > do: what you like to do > dreams: what you want to do > dork: what you’re obsessed with
this gives ppl a way to connect with your story.
and you’ll eventually get way cooler deals/opportunities.
4. no such thing as too long, only too boring
boring content is the enemy.
joe rogan’s episodes run 3+ hrs. his friends used to tell him to cut them.
he kept them long bc that’s how we got to know someone more deeply.
now he’s the biggest podcaster in the world.
be an advocate for super long, binge worthy content.
5. A+ content C- delivery
**beginners get this wrong bc they spend hours recording, scripting, editing, etc.
aim for better content. the delivery can be improved later.
if you look at old mr beast videos, the quality is terrible but it’s still interesting.
spend more time on your ideas.
6. build a binge bank
at first only 8 people will see your post and you’ll be embarrassed.
get over yourself. this is a compounding asset.
a binge bank is one hour of your best content that ppl can consume later on.
the purpose is anyone who watches it will think “this person deserves a bigger following.”
7. people want to feel smt, not information
ask anyone what they learned from their favorite creator…
they’ll almost never say “tips” but they’ll tell you how the content makes them feel.
give someone the feeling once and you’ll be on their radar.
give it to them every day and you’ll get a dedicated fan for life.
8. the rule of 100
mr beasts rule:
when people ask him for content advice. he says:
make 100 videos. pick one thing to improve next time after each video.
if you’re unserious, you’ll never finish.
if you are serious, you’ll never need anymore advice.
