Leftist Women Supporting Islam?

I believe that almost everyone’s opinions are rational, so long as you can understand the facts and assumptions a person uses to form those opinions. Their facts may be wrong and their assumptions may be irrational, but in the context of that inaccuracy and irrationality, those opinions generally make sense. (Does that make sense?) Thus, when I see a group of people acting in a highly irrational manner, I like to dig deep and understand the nature of their irrational facts and assumptions that lead them to rationally form irrational opinions. In that vein, something that has long puzzled me is the way Leftist American women support Islam and the importation of Sharia onto American shores.

I struggle to understand their choice.

Superficially, their choice makes no sense. Perhaps the singular most important issue for Leftist women is to defeat “the Patriarchy” and to be treated exactly the same as men by law and society. These concepts have been defining issues for Second-, Third- and Fourth-Wave Feminism for decades, and in many ways have defined Leftist/Democrat policies over much of the same time period.

However, there is no worse “Patriarchy” than Islam. I have spent years of my life living in and around Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries ruled by Islam, and women are treated so horribly that it is difficult for the Western mind to comprehend what happens unless you see it with your own eyes. Women are chattel property. They are slaves. Daughters are deemed near worthless. Goats and donkeys are deemed to have more value. Honor killings are a norm. I have personally seen women, covered head to toe in burkhas, beg to be PURCHASED from their husbands. Even in Western countries where Islamic families have immigrated and become “civilized,” marriages are still usually arranged marriages. If a wife has a life outside the home, it is only because her husband allows it.

Islam is steeped in spousal abuse—the Koran instructs on how to do it.

All of what I say is true. None of what I say is exaggerated.

Yet…

Leftist women eagerly embrace the “Red/Green Alliance.” They embrace modern feminism, yet vote for and support radical Islamic candidates and the widespread, unchecked immigration of Sharia law onto our shores. This makes no sense. They embrace the very thing they claim to hate.

For a long time, I have been unable to understand this.

Then it hit me.

These Leftist women fantasize that they have overcome the mythical “Patriarchy” that has not existed in Western society for many decades. They see themselves as the hero of a war that was never actually fought by them. They are the main character of a mythical battle, at least in their own minds. So when they go to Minnesota and see some Muslim woman covered head to toe and trailing her husband like a pet, they see themselves, except they see themselves defeating that actual Patriarchy. They think that if they just vote correctly, if they just think correctly, that the Muslim women they see would become free, just like they did in their internal narrative of their own non-existent battle. So that right there is their faulty assumption.

Then this must be coupled with a faulty fact. That faulty fact is the idea that Islamic society is somehow open to reform. It is not, and it never will be. The way women are treated in Islam is virtually unchanged since the 7th Century. While most of the rest of the world has seen the emancipation of women, Islam remains stuck in a perpetual, unchanging and unyielding cycle of abusing women. Islam is impervious to internal change, and the fact is that the Minnesota woman covered head to toe will not only never be set free, she is just an example of what the Islamic invaders intend for that Western, Leftist woman who mistakenly sees herself as the hero of her own invented story.

I now understand how Leftist American women rationally arrive at an irrational choice. They have an irrational assumption that the “Patriarchy” they imagine they themselves defeated will be similarly defeated by the Muslim women living under an actual Patriarchy, if only the right votes are made. Then they ignore a rational fact that Islam is unyielding and will never free women, ever, and—worse—that Islam wants that same Leftist woman dead or enslaved.

The way to defeat this is to help these Leftist women see what Islam actually does to women. Right now, the Leftists think the stories that veterans like I tell are racist myths. They think we are lying and exaggerating because we have some sort of racist, xenophobic hearts. They do not understand that we are trying to WARN them, and that we are the ones championing the equality of women by explaining the rampant inequality of Islam.

I believe the greatest unintended benefit of the GWOT was the way it educated hundreds of thousands of American veterans as to just how evil Islam is in its treatment of women. I believe we veterans have a sacred task of sharing those stories with those same Leftist women. I know their brains are sometimes impervious to reality (it’s why they vote Democrat), but I also believe we veterans have a duty to keep trying.

If we don’t try now, it will soon become too late. If you are one of those veterans, please do not be shy—share your stories with those who need to hear them most, even if it is painful for you to tell those stories.

Duty calls, yet again.
